They contain photosynthetic pigments, such as chlorophyll, that capture the energy from sunlight. The light phase of photosynthesis occurs in the thylakoids. They are essential for converting solar energy into chemical energy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Sunlight is captured by <strong>chlorophyll<\/strong> and used to break down water molecules (photolysis).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Oxygen (O\u2082)<\/strong> is released and <strong>ATP<\/strong> (Adenosine Triphosphate) and <strong>NADPH<\/strong> (reduced Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide Phosphate) are generated, it is a high-energy <strong>electron and proton transporter<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading translation-block\"><strong>Dark Phase<\/strong> or <strong>Calvin Cycle<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is independent of light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\">It occurs in the stroma of chloroplasts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">The <strong>ATP<\/strong> and <strong>NADPH<\/strong> produced in the light phase are used to convert <strong>CO\u2082<\/strong> into <strong>glucose (C\u2086H\u2081\u2082O\u2086)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\"><strong>ATP and NADPH are essential for transforming light energy into chemical energy stored in carbohydrates<\/strong>.
