We install humidity and temperature sensors as a test to improve the quality of your crops. It is an honor for Plantae to control the phenology of agriculture in such a distant country and we hope that it is not the only one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Crops in the Dominican Republic<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Dominican Republic is a tropical island located in the eastern part of the Caribbean. It has a climate with mild temperatures and abundant torrential rains, especially in some areas. Others, on the contrary, have higher and variable temperatures depending on the height.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the abundant valleys we find a varied agriculture, but especially sugarcane in the east and rice. Also vegetables, tropical fruits such as mango and pineapple as well as avocado and citrus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fundamental problem with agriculture is variable weather and severe tropical storms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">A good percentage of the <strong>agriculture is peasant<\/strong> for family use, growing mainly sweet potatoes, beans, corn, cassava, bananas and bananas. When the extensions of land allow it, we find <strong>intensive crops<\/strong> of rice, tomato, beans, coffee and tobacco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their production is considerably increased by legumes, cereals, tubers such as sweet potatoes, fruit trees and vegetables. The most important exports are rice, coffee and tobacco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Finally, the large increase in vegetable <strong>greenhouses<\/strong> due to the financing they receive for their installation, especially in San Jos\u00e9 de Ocoa, La Vega and San Juan de la Maguana. In the last ten years the increase has been very considerable and extensive to all the provinces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Distribution by zones<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\"><strong>Flat lands<\/strong> <strong>to undulating,<\/strong> <strong>dry conditions with high humidity, without irrigation:<\/strong> La Romana, San Pedro de Macor\u00eds and Mar\u00eda Trinidad S\u00e1nchez. Abundant agriculture, especially sugar cane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\"><strong>Flat and undulating<\/strong>, <strong>without irrigation<\/strong> near the coast: El Seibo, La Romana, Salcedo, Espaillat, Puerto Plata, Dajab\u00f3n, Santiago Rodr\u00edguez, El\u00edas Pi\u00f1a\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\"><strong>Undulating to steep topographies<\/strong> <strong>in dry conditions,<\/strong> the innermost area: Monse\u00f1or Nouel, S\u00e1nchez Ram\u00edrez, Espaillat, and Santiago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\"><strong>Central areas<\/strong> of Jarabacoa and Constanza in la Vega, are the country's orchard, with vegetable cultivation: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ant.plantae.lavallweb.com\/en\/agricultura-de-precision- in-growing-tomatoes\/\" target=\"_self\">tomatoes<\/a><\/strong>, peppers, carrots, cucumbers, potatoes, lettuce, broccoli, aromatic herbs, <a href=\"https:\/\/\/en\/ \/plantae.garden\/sensors-in-greenhouses\/\" target=\"_self\">strawberries<\/a>\u2026 In this area and in San Jos\u00e9 de Ocoa, the number of greenhouses is increasing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\"><strong>Rugged lands: <\/strong>under dry conditions of high environmental humidity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\"><strong>Semi-arid areas<\/strong>: the South and Southwest. Very little outside agriculture. Mainly sugar cane and banana monocultures. In the high areas coffee and some cocoa.<\/p>\n<cite><a href=\"https:\/\/agricultura.gob.do\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/BOLETIN-DECADICO-segundo-periodo-21-NOVIEMBRE-DEL-2019.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ministry of agriculture (Dominican Republic)<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eldinero.com.do\/42982\/settlers-produce-the-26-of-the-sugar-cane-used-by-the-mills\/#:~: text=Theproducersofcaaestn,andSanPedroofMacors.\" target=\"_self\">Sugar cane plantations<\/a>: Hato Mayor, El Seibo, Higuey, La Romana and San Pedro de Macor\u00eds<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\"><strong>Rice<\/strong> accounts for 80% of the production around the Yuna River, which ends in the province of Saman\u00e1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Crops are usually alternated with fruit trees, which are very popular <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ant.plantae.lavallweb.com\/en\/sensors-inalambricos-en-aguacate-agricultura-de-precision-en-espana\/\" target=\"_self \">avocado<\/a><\/strong>, lime and soursop. Other areas have mango and tobacco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"591\" height=\"406\" src=\"https:\/\/ant.plantae.lavallweb.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Zonas-agricolas-de-Republica-Dominicana-.png\" alt=\"Zonas agr\u00edcolas de la Rep\u00fablica Dominica\" class=\"wp-image-83956\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Agricultural areas of the Dominican Republic<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Greenhouse agriculture in the Dominican Republic<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The difficulties posed by the climate mean that intensive precision agriculture in greenhouses is being increasingly implemented. We find greenhouses in almost all provinces. San Jos\u00e9 de Ocoa and La Vega stand out in the downtown area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The advantages are many because risks are reduced and production is increased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Farmers encounter the difficulty of the heavy investment involved in installing a precision greenhouse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Since 2000, the Dominican Republic, aware of the problems of agriculture and seeing the proliferation and advantages of greenhouses in Spain, approved the first financial plan to help farmers financially. Observing the benefits and quality of the product, they did not last long to promote <strong>greenhouse agriculture<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This type of crop needs exhaustive humidity controls, especially due to the climate of the peninsula. Its lack of control can lead to fungi appearing in the greenhouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">The main greenhouse crops are: <strong>peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, garlic, watermelons and melons.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ant.plantae.lavallweb.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/image-1024x642.png\" alt=\"Agricultura de invernadero\" class=\"wp-image-84027\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Data from the Dominican Embassy-Own elaboration-Greenhouse zones<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Agricultural probes in greenhouse agriculture<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vegetables such as tomato and cucumber are staked so that the plant can climb, and they are very sensitive to humidity, temperature and light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its control is basic to produce quality and quantity:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Moisture sensor in the root environment<\/strong>: controlled by sensors, it gives us information in real time that we can use to modify the irrigation according to the needs of the plant and the time of year. Humidity influences stem stiffness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Environmental humidity<\/strong>: important to avoid fungicides, but also for the proper development of the plant. If it is below what the plants need, sprayers must be activated to adjust the required levels. It should not drop below 40% for some vegetables.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ant.plantae.lavallweb.com\/en\/salinity-in-intensive-and-super-intensive-plantations\/\" target=\"_self\"><strong>Conductivity probes<\/strong> <\/a>to measure concentrations of salt that can affect the production of vegetables. In drip irrigation, great care must be taken to control the salts that rise with evaporation and the accumulation would cause the next irrigation to have too much concentration, harming the plant's absorption of the nutrients it needs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Ambient temperature sensor<\/strong>, essential to avoid excess heat inside. The greenhouse must have a ventilation system by opening upper windows, essential if temperatures are high.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Root temperature probe<\/strong>, essential to know the health of the plant at the subsoil level.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\"><strong>Irrigation controlled by <a href=\"https:\/\/ant.plantae.lavallweb.com\/en\/viewing-some-clients\/\" target=\"_self\">Plantae sensors<\/a> prevents the growth of fungi and favors the absorption of minerals without that the crop suffers water stress.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"860\" data-id=\"83843\" src=\"https:\/\/ant.plantae.lavallweb.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Hub-en-invernadero.png\" alt=\"Hub en agricultura de invernadero\" class=\"wp-image-83843\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Hub \/ receiver<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" data-id=\"75686\" src=\"https:\/\/ant.plantae.lavallweb.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/invernadero-de-tomate.jpg\" alt=\"Invernadero de tomate\" class=\"wp-image-75686\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Tomato greenhouse<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Plantae probes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">The sensors\/probes are wireless and we can place them at different depths, depending on the type of crop and the depth of the root system, both when planting on land or in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ant.plantae.lavallweb.com\/en\/cultivo -hydroponic-with-rock-wool-or-coconut-fiber\/\" target=\"_self\">hydroponic<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">The information is collected with a <strong>Hub\/receiver<\/strong> that can have a built-in solar panel or be connected to the electricity grid and is visible on the mobile or tablet in real time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This means that the farmer can modify the irrigation or the ambient temperature based on the data received and have controlled greenhouse agriculture for the duration of production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Traditional agriculture<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Traditional agriculture has very few areas with technical irrigation. This causes a lot of water to be lost.
