Its cultivation extends through part of the Mediterranean area. Its intensive plantations rely on probe-controlled irrigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"la-chufa\">The chuga<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is a plant that can resist more than two years, although it can be planted annually. It is herbaceous and reaches a height of about 50 centimeters. The roots are what produce the edible tubers we know as tiger nuts. In areas that are not cultivated to take advantage of the fruit, it is considered a weed that harms other crops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La Comunidad Valenciana es su principal productora, Tambi\u00e9n en donde m\u00e1s se consume c\u00f3mo fruto seco y como bebida,<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Horchata\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> la horchata<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tubers develop in spring. and summer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the aerial part of the plant dries is when we can carry out the harvest. They are extracted by shaking the plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"cultivo-de-la-chufa\">Tigernut cultivation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tiger nut seeds are hydrated and sown in furrows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Intensive tiger nut plantations need:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Irrigation control with abundant water and no flooding.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A warm temperature. and frost free.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>About five months of development.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The soil must be light.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is very sensitive to salinity, which increases as irrigation is not controlled.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To collect it, farmers resort to burning the branches. The control allows to have the ideal humidity for the development of the tubers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As plantations become more intensive, the need for moisture increases and so does the risk of salinity.
