Accurate measurement changes everything in precision agriculture | Plantae Webinar

10 years of evolution: from measuring water to understanding soil (and what comes next)

The webinar began with a presentation by Samuel López, CEO of Plantae, giving a clear overview of these 10 years of history.

The message was direct: Plantae was born focused on irrigation, but today the value lies in understanding the complete system: soil, climate, crop and decisions.

Some key points from this first part:

  • Real evolution of hardware and software (not empty PowerPoints).
  • Substantial improvement of the Plantae API, which now allows data integration with third-party agricultural management platforms.
  • Advances in probes: possibility of modifying the reading frequency remotely, new sensors in exploration (pH, sodium) and a clear path towards the future of agronomic data.
  • Digitization of flow meters and the role they will play when the "water logbook" becomes a reality.
  • The increasingly critical role of weather stations in understanding what is really happening in the field, with microclimates that do not appear at any public station.

All with one clear idea: measuring is good, but measuring to decide is what makes the difference.

Saving water is not the goal. It is the consequence.

In the second part, Pablo del Río brought all that discourse down to earth: plots of land, sensors and decisions that are made (or not) every week.

👉Having sensors isn't just about saving water.

Savings appear when you do everything else right.

Soil moisture was discussed, yes, but also electrical conductivity and what it really tells us about salts, nutrient lockouts and availability, soil temperature—an undervalued parameter that indicates when the roots are working…and when they aren't. And the climate was measured on the farm itself, not 15 km away.

And, above all, interpretation, which is where many systems fall short.

Crop health, predictive models and timely decisions

One of the most powerful blocks was the use of meteorological data to anticipate:

● Calculation of dew point, leaf wetting hours, thermal integral and chilling hours.

● Real-world use of these parameters for predictive models of fungal diseases (real-world example in vineyards in La Rioja).

● Crop phenology based on data, not on intuition or "what has always been done".

Something important became clear here:

📌 It's not about automating for the sake of automating, but about helping to make more accurate decisions at the right time.

Success stories: when a graph saves your harvest

Real-life success stories were showcased:

Tomato in Navarra:

Medir bien lo cambia todo en agricultura de precisión | Webinar Plantae

A farmer detects rapid drying after a rain using sensors. He decides to irrigate earlier than planned and avoids losing up to 80–90% of his crop.

The water savings was 17.6%, yes.

But the real value was not losing the harvest.

● Olive grove:

Gradual reduction of irrigation from 19 hours to 6, maintaining soil moisture and root activity. Less water, less fertilizer, same (or better) yield.

This is where everything comes together: data that is properly interpreted protects profitability, not just the resource.

For those who want to be one step ahead

If you're not yet a Plantae user, these webinars aren't for everyone. They're for those who want to understand their farm with real data, anticipate problems, and make decisions based on sound technical judgment.
