Juan XXIII Foundation: sustainability, inclusion and water conservation

Among its activities, the following stand out:

  • We create and maintain vertical gardens, green roofs, urban gardens, and naturalized spaces. Our goal is to promote biodiversity, improve energy efficiency, and reduce the carbon footprint.
  • Huertapp is an app that facilitates inclusive participation in garden management and promotes the autonomy of its users
  • Development of telemetry and irrigation automation systems using sensors, which optimize water consumption and improve the sustainability of the facilities.
  • The Inclusive Circular Lab is an educational program in schools that promotes composting, the circular economy, and citizen science, led by people with intellectual disabilities.
  • Social initiatives such as the Vicálvaro Community Garden, the Woodworking Workshop using recycled materials, and the Garden of Dreams, a therapeutic space for children and teenagers with disabilities or autism spectrum disorder.

These projects combine technological innovation, social inclusion, and environmental protection, generating a positive impact on society and contributing to water conservation and urban sustainability.

Installation project for a vertical garden at the CIEC (the first Circular Economy Innovation Center in Madrid), where we will plant: aromatic herbs, vegetables, and carnations.

What has been done at this center (CIEC) is to install moisture sensors in a vertical garden, in this case, in collaboration with Gracity, a startup that aims to connect vertical garden service providers with large corporations that can subsidize or sponsor vertical gardens in socioeconomically disadvantaged areas.

These vertical gardens are not just for decoration; in fact, the one we installed contains plants suitable for human consumption, such as peppers, cherry tomatoes, eggplant, rosemary, thyme, and edible flowers.

  • 1 data collection receiver hub.

  • A flow meter with a 16 mm diamete
  • Pluviometer.
